TAFEcyber Project 1 Complete!
In 2020, the TAFEcyber consortium, was established and began working collaboratively to meet training related milestones. The TAFEcyber project milestones included the following outcomes:
Formation of a national consortium, including a management committee to govern the project activities and MOUs in place with industry partners.
A central repository has been established to hold unit resources, using the TAFE SA SharePoint. In collaboration with industry partner Ionize, the units of the Advanced Diploma of Cyber Security have been reviewed for industry currency and enhanced for TAFEs to use and incorporate into delivery.
A well-established brand has been developed with Block Branding, providing TAFEcyber with branding assets and a website.

A national pilot was conducted using the AWS Educate platform, this pilot tested unit VU22242 Securing Cloud Services and involved lecturers from each TAFE to complete learning activities and test an assessment included in the UOC.
A series of “Industry Talks” were held via zoom for the consortium members and their staff involved in cyber security. As a form of Professional Development eight speakers from AustCyber, ECU, Trustwave, Hack Hunter and Empired presented on topics relating to the industry around Australia. The Industry Talks series was well received by the consortium, with one session hosting 90 attendees and requests for the series to be held annually.
A national cyber security challenge demonstrating interconnectivity between Training in Cyber Security Operation Centres (TCSOCs) and cloud networks (for TAFEs who do not have a TCSOC) was successfully completed. Being the first event of its kind in TAFE history Denis Coldham, Head of Programs IT at SM TAFE, successfully built a competition incorporating a Catch the Flag style challenge, while students were able to attack, repair and defend with the connecting networks.
This competition has received national recognition from AustCyber and non-member TAFEs wanting to join the consortium.
A large media interest on the TAFEcyber LinkedIn page has also occurred, with posts receiving 3500 views from government, industry, and students.
TAFE members are currently sharing the event on social media platforms and websites, and TAFE Directors Australia (TDA) has also included the event in the TDA Newsletter. (https://tda.edu.au/newsletters/imagine-comment-by-ceo-craig-robertson/)
During the initial project TAFEcyber provided AustCyber with 4 milestone reports addressing each stage of the project in detail and in September 2021 the final report was submitted bringing the project to an end.
